Education: SIGs
Special interest groups, or SIGs as they are referred to normally, are held either as a one-time event or as ongoing monthly meetings. They are for smaller groups and focus on specific topics such as desktop publishing, database design, etc.
SIG schedules are announced here on the Website, in the AMUG newsletter Maclanta, and on the AMUG Online Community.
AMUG SIG Lineup
FileMaker SIG
The FileMaker (FM) SIG provides a forum for FM users at the beginner and intermediate levels. More advanced topics may be covered from time to time, depending on interest. All FM users, on Macintosh and Windows platforms, are welcome to attend. No attendance fee is required. The SIG meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Vinings Branch of the Cobb County Library (4290 Paces Ferry Rd NW, Atlanta GA 30303; (770) 801-5330) at 7:00PM. The next meeting is scheduled for January 24, 2006. For more information, please contact Lee Hoong at [email protected] or (678) 313-5604.
Basic Systems Training Class
The Basic Systems Training Class is no longer being offered. If you are an AMUG member and would like to teach this class, please contact Chris Waldrip at cwaldrip@amugonline.org.
Mac OS X SIG
Hosted by Chris Waldrip
A special interest group dedicated to Apple's newest operating system, Mac OS X. This SIG focuses on this exciting new rendition of the Macintosh operating system. Being based on the powerful and dynamic BSD flavor of Unix, and with its new interface, Mac OS X can be intimidating to both novice and expert Mac users, and most users in between. Join us and learn tips, tricks, and helpful techniques for getting the most out of Mac OS X. Meetings are usually scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month.
The Mac OS X SIG rotates through basic level topics, advanced level topics, and open Q&A on Mac OS X. Everyone is welcome to attend any of the topics. Advanced users will probably learn something from a basic session, and basic users might learn more than they'd think durring an advanced session.

Portable Computing SIG (2nd Monday)
Do you have to take your PowerBook or Palm Pilot everywhere you go? Are you always looking for the latest gadgets for your iBook? Are you always shopping for the latest cellular phone? Well, now you have a group of like-minded folks in the AMUG Portable Computing SIG.
We're meeting at Borders Books and Music at the Parkway Pointe shopping center near Cumberland Mall, on the Second Monday of the month at 7 pm.
Meetings will typically feature hardware and software presentations and tips and tricks by attendees, with the occasional vendor presentation.
The address for the store is 3101 Cobb Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30339, and a map can be found here.
If you're on I-75 you'll want to take the Cumberland Mall exit (#258) and turn left crossing I-75. Parkway Point shopping Center is at the intersection of Cobb Pkwy and Cumberland Blvd.
If you're on I-285 then you can take the Cobb Pkwy exit (#19 I believe) south to the intersection of Cobb Pkwy and Cumberland Blvd.
Contact Chris Waldrip (cwaldrip@amugonline.org) for more info.
