Lawrence and I upgraded the server from 10.3 to 10.4 on Saturday. There were a few more headaches than anticipated, but we seem to have most of it up.

Users will have problems accessing their AMUG email as we were unable to preserve your passwords. To reset your password go to your desktop, click on the GO menu, select Connect to Server, and connect to afp://69.61.61.178.

When prompted for your login, use the same username you use for your email account, and use "password" for your password. You'll be prompted to change your password, do this by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom left corner of the login window and select Change Password (see image below).

Please note that the 'old password' is the temporary password and not the password you use to use. And also note that the username that's displayed by default in the Connect to Server window is your local username, and not necessarily the same as your AMUG Email username.

I'll post a list of changes to the forums in the next day or so.

I didn't look on the heel of the boot (or really read your first message about the gear).

Webmail is next on the short list.

Squirrelmail, the webmail client we were using, will be upgraded shortly. We'd hoped we could use Apple's webmail, but it doesn't work with the newer PHP5 (why 10.4 is still using PHP4 we'll never know).

This is actually a preparatory step for our migration to 10.5 later this year (easier to migrate one version number to the next than to skip several version numbers). With 10.5 we'll have built-in support for PHP5, which means Apple's own webmail, and other things like Apache 2.

What doesn't work for you?  Mail?  Or the password changing procedure that Chris outlined in the start of the topic?

When changing your password as Chris has suggested, "password" is your old password.

I can't change my password because I dont know my old password.  The password changing procedure requires that you know your old password.  I have previously requested help for this.

Everyone's password has been reset to 'password'. THat is your new 'old' password, and it has to be changed.

When you go to change your password, use 'password' as your old password, and then create a new password.

Ok,

Appreciate all the hard work you guys are doing!

Couple of problems however...I can't connect to the forums the usual way for over 2 days.  I sent you an error message Chris about this.  I tried to get in through the website and that worked for me.  However not everyone is going to figure that out.  When the dust settles will this all be fixed nice? Smiley

As for the server, I tried and evidently i don't remember my password, i tried what I thought it was several times to little avail.  Can someone drop me email to my normal address [email protected]   thanks!

Chris,

I treid it exactly as you suggested, it will not give us an option to change the password.  When i sign in as Michael Henigan and use password as the password this is the message i get.

Connection Failture
Your password must be changed. Please set a new password.

Addendum i finally figure out how to change the password, you click on the little gear at the bottom left corner and it lets you change the password.  I put the new password in and it connected me and said new folder and it was my own desktop, so i guess I am a little confused as to what exactly this server is and what I should be seeing?  Sorry if I am being a bit dense here but this is totally confusing me guys.

Please read my first post again. Did you click on the gear icon to change your password?

What do you mean you can't connect to the forums the usual way? I didn't get any error message from you. How are you trying to get in through the web site? We didn't change anything at www.amugonline.org with logging into the forums - it's always been under the AMUG Community link. If anything we added webmail to that section to help folks even more.

Are you going to http://forum...ugonline.org - that's the address they've always been at.

OK, Now its my turn to feel stupid.  I did EXACTLY what you
said.  Got the window with my name, put in password as password,
put in new password twice and got message:

Connection Failed

Unknown user, incorrec5 password, or etc. etc. and to
contact server's administrator.

So I am.
