Hi Chris,

Lawrence and I upgraded the server from 10.3 to 10.4 on Saturday. There were a few more headaches than anticipated, but we seem to have most of it up.

Users will have problems accessing their AMUG email as we were unable to preserve your passwords. To reset your password go to your desktop, click on the GO menu, select Connect to Server, and connect to afp://69.61.61.178.

Hmmm, this wouldn't work for me -- for one thing, how do I get to "my desktop"? I assume (yeah, I know...) this means the Web site desktop, but I don't see any way to get there; I tried on the desktop on the Quicksilver, but that didn't work either.

However it does bring up a question -- I assume from your reference to "your email account" you mean here on AMUG? How do I get there?

On your computer, click on the Finder icon in your Dock (it's the two-tone smiley face). A window, most likely your home folder, will appear. In the menu bar you should have a Go menu. Click on that and select Connect to Server and follow the instructions from the main page.

Bill, your username is abbreviated as we previously discussed. Your email password is "password" until you finish changing it.

For instructions on setting up your email you can follow the instructions here.

Came here, did that, and got the following message box:

Connecting To Server
Connecting to afp:// ...

The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "afp:69.62.62.178" could not be read or written.
(Error Code -36)

                           Try Again                       Cancel

FWIW this is running Firefox 2.0.0.3 on a G4 QuickSilver (10.3.9).

The IP address is 69.61.61.178, and you can use afp://69.61.61.178 but that's redundent (Mac OS X's connect to server assumes that the server you're trying to connect to is AFP = Apple File Protocol).

You can also send me an email or personal message through the forum with the password you'd like to use.
