2003 Election Candidates

Board Nominees
Michael Henigan for President

I have been a member of AMUG for 5 years and have served on both the Board of Directors I have served continually as Vendor Liaison for the past 4 years. I have secured thousands of dollars in donations, giveaway and review items for the benefit of our members. I also have been proud to have produced 2 highly successful auctions for AMUG.

When I was approached to run for President, I was at first flattered, but I had to decline. Then 2 more members approached me to run for President as well. I took a hard look at the idea and decided that I did have something more to give to AMUG by serving as President and would like the chance to do so.

Why would I like to be President? Who do I wish to serve as President again? Let me explain...

I am not sure if people are really aware why AMUG actually exists and what purpose drives this organization.

Allow me to share with some of the newer members and even possibly refresh memories of some of our long running members who we are! (g).

User Groups are organizations that were created by people like ourselves who share a common interest in computers and even more specifically Apple Computers. That much most every one should know, what may not be more commonly known is that AMUG was founded as a 501c(3) educational organization.

We are here to help people who want to know more about computers, learn more and to have problems possibly solved. We are here to teach and pass along the information we have and want to share with other people and to open minds of the general public who want to know more about Apple Computers and Software much like our current members.

We have an Online Community where we share many of these ideas, solve problems and spread the enthusiasm we all thrive on. Yes there is the Internet, but somehow it is never is as quite as presonal as getting answers or discussing a really hot idea with people you know and have gotten to meet at our meetings. Its more personal when you have actually met some of the people who post on the forums.

I wish to see the Online Community thrive long into the 22nd century, it serves a need of our members and they have certainly made that known to us on more then one occasion.

As a computer based community we need to be more pro-active with the Atlanta Community and share that news with them by re-establishing our Maclanta Xpo and Mac College on a yearly basis. We have had really good public relations from these projects in years past, we need to continue with them.

As President, you manage a Board of Directors who runs this organization. As such, the Board is answerable to the membership. After all they are the ones who elected us to serve in the first place. We need to let the membership know we understand and respect that. How? Accountability!

Our Board of Directors need to held accountable for thier actions. In our day to day jobs we are accountable for what we do and also what we don't. There is no reason why the Board of Directors shouldn't be held accountable for what they promised to do when they ran for election.

If elected as your president I will hold myself accountable and each and every member of the board will be held accountable as well, as it should be.

In closing I want to say that I wish to serve AMUG for 2004-2005 and show that we are an organization that cares about our members and more importantly cares about the community we live in!

Thank you,

Mike
