I am primarily on Mac but we do have a PC desktop and laptop.

Recently my PC desktop suddenly stopped connecting to the internet (The page cannot be displayed). There is no waving flag - the error page comes up immediately.

I disconnect the ethernet cable from the PC desktop and connect it to the PC laptop and I get immediate internet connection with no problem. I've checked the settings under IE Explorer and they seem to be the same on both PCs.

Do I have a hardware problem?

Well, the problem is obviously with your desktop PC in some fashion. It could very well be a problem with the Ethernet card.

I suppose you're using a broadband switch (connected to your cable modem or DSL modem and then all your other computers connect to it either wirelessly or via ethernet). You should at least check the network settings.

I'd troubleshoot to make sure it's not software, but new ethernet cards are cheap (sub $25).
