I am ready to purchase a new Mac PowerBook Pro to replace my aging TiBook. I will purchase the latest version that is out there.

My only concern is that I still never got around to converting all my OLD documents that are formatted for OS-9 applications.

If I get a new "Intel" PowerBook Pro will OS-9 still be able to run on it so that I can eventually convert all my old OS-9 files then dump OS-9 forever???

Are there any other issues I should be concerned about with the new PowerBooks?

Jeff,
It is my understanding that OS-9 is dead with the new machines. Converting files is an issue. IF they are files that are still supported, probably. If it's something like an old MacDraw file, forget it.

Mac OS 9, aka Classic, is officially dead on the Intel machines, and only vaguely supported on the older PowerPC machines.

There is a program for Mac OS 9 support, called SheepShaver that you can use if you absolutely must have Classis support on an Intel machine.

One thing you should look at is MacLink Plus. Before you spring for it, make sure it has all the translators you need. Using it, you can convert all old files to a different format in batches. If you're talking about old Mac Word files or Photoshop stuff, no problem, but old Claris stuff might be a problem.

Did you get the MBP yet?

If not, I'd wait for a bit and see if there's a hardware refresh that *might* come out in the next few months.

Where are you with this?

I'll probably have to wait for the newer model.
Between now and then I need to clean off lots of stuff and convert whatever I need to before losing any OS-9 stuff.
As soon as I get that chore done, I'll be ready to move on up to the latest and greatest-
