I'm working in Quark 4.3 and before distilling (using Distiller 4 and/or 5)a .ps I received "Update your CID library now". Did that, and now I get "MHeigh GB Light cannot be embedded due to liscencing restrictions".
This probably is related to the CID library. I do not know how to fix it. Maybe I need to reactivate it, maybe I need to get a new download for it from Acrobat.
Anybody?

I've never seenthis error message before, but I can offer 2 options.
One is to use the Quark disxcussion forum. I have found it to be very good along with all of Quarks other customer relations. But I doubt as a company they are dpoing much support for 4.3.
Second, you need to upgrade to at least Quark 6 if you are using Tiger.
Time to bite the bullet. In fact, Quark 7 is an excelllent program. Just don't know how many commercial rinters have boiught it yet.

Thanks,
Simplified Chinese Quark only goes to version 4 so I have to use it, on 9 machines. We have 8 different versions of Quark here, and OX10 Classic too(use that most). The only Quark 6 are Japanese and English. I have to use the archaic stuff on some Asian projects because Quark has no 5 or up in them. I'm sure we'll get 7 when clients start using it.
InDesign is so much easier. You can use it for just about anything. I have to use Quark on Quark projects though.
I'm having lots of troubles with the 9 machines now, I think I need a tech to do an overhaul on them. Know anyone? I have type 1 errors on trying to create a .ps in the quark and it closes now on another 9 machine, not the one from the initial issue of this thread.
The only problems I ever have here are QUARK!

First, sorry for all the spelling errors. I typed it quickly and did not proof it.
Anyway, I also sorry you're having problems. I can't help you other than what I mentioned about using the Quark discussion forum. Quark is a changed company despite what you and others may believe. And I don't get a nickel from them.
And I think the opposite of you re Indesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator (they are all so unintuitive, and I don't like monopolies).
I guess you've checked out their other new products and extensions as it relates to your work. I used to create .ps files all the time using Quark 4 and then used Distiller to make PDFs and never had a problem.
Your initial guesses might be the best answers. And maybe your fonts are corrupted. Are there in fact licensing restrictions with MHeigh GB Light?

Thanks,
The fonts work on some docs and not others. I think that when the CID library updated it caused that issue. The issue with the Type 1 error on the other machine, I don't know. Type 1 errors are supposedly either low memory, or buggy application? This is the first I've seen of it.
Don't get worked up over spelling on a mesage board. Like is way too short for that! I mean ,fro taht...

HEY! It looks like Quark 7 CAN handle the Asian fonts! KOOL!
I'm all of 20 minutes into working with the trial version. The replace font function is better than the other versions too. That will save a lot of time. The only "bug" I see so far is that when I replace fonts throughout the doc, it messes up and locks up the view, it had cascading tiles/sections or something. Minimizing did not clear it up, but closing and re-opening did. Had to do that 4 times, but that is still better than having to select each paragraph throughout the whole doc and changing the fonts out manually.
Early yet, but I'm hoping this will cure my Quark ills.
