I have a HP scanner and it worked fine with my OS until we loaded Tiger.  Now every time I boot up I get a message that the scanner initialization can't be found.  In order to be able to use the scanner we have had to go around the process described in the manuel.  Can anyone help me to understand what happened and how I can get the OS to recognize the scanner.  At the very least, how can I stop the message at boot up?

Thanks.

AH HA! Another person having the same issue i am.
Thank you for speaking up - I haven't used my scanner in months, but it is attached to my G5 - question - do you have yours directly plugged into the back of your machine or is it on a hub (which is what I have done)?
I hope someone responds...

Yes, Martha mine is plugged into a hub.  However prior to upgrading to Tiger, it was plugged into the hub and doing well.  I don't understand.  Elizabeth did find a way to bypass the initializing so I can use the scanner, though.

Any thoughts on all this.  As usual, one step forward and two back.

Nice thought but we did that multiple times with the same result--nothing.  Any other thoughts?  You are the only one who has responded so we may be the only ones with this problem.  Bummer.

Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it

Well .. I can tell you that once I installed Tiger on my G4 and tried to get my Epson scanner to work, it didnt do too well (Firewire).  The Epson software never really worked as well as it did under Panther.

I did work with Epson tech support and got the scanner LIMPING .. I did look at several other software packages because the operation of the included Epson software was lacking -- VueScan (??) and SilverFast were two scanning packages that I played with.

I preferred Silverfast because of the polish and knobs.  I dont know, but I'm sure that there's got to be other software out there to grab images and put it in the Mac (into Photoshop, etc). check MacUpdate and VersionTracker to see if there's other goodies to install and try out.

I guess, as a summary, you might want to go back to the HP Site and see if theres new software / drivers for download.  i wouldnt be suprized if they have some TIGER friendly improved applications. I know that recently I refreshed the driver for my 2 year old HP printer and the driver is MUCH better now than when it was when I got it. If there's nothing improved, look to a professional software company (Silverfast?) for official support.

Thoughts?

Thank you so much for your very informed reply.  Thanks to Elizabeth Walsh's talents, we were able to get the scanner working but just not with the route intended by Epson.  We did download the Tiger driver and it didn't help us.

I'll definitely keep the other programs in mind.

Not sure which HP you have. Is this what you downloaded and it didn't help?

I have HP scanjet 3570c.  I can't tell you about the exact information you quoted but I know Elizabeth went to HP and put in the model and got the download indicated for that model to go with the Tiger.

ok, it was then, because I have the 3500c and I couldn't remember my model number (was at St Joe's for board meeting) and guess 3550 or 3530.
I will have to do some scanning soon, so I guess I will be sharing your grief... Guess I should give Elizabeth a call!
