Okay, I've been dealing with this for a long while, 9 months maybe?
Sometimes, and I haven't figured out a pattern, when I check mail, it prompts me for the password - sometimes repeatedly!
I've checked the box "save in keychain" thinking it will solve all my woes, but doesn't help.
I guess i should mention that I have BS dsl.
It doesn't do it for all accounts, just about half or one or two. Like I said, it seems random.
Today, it has done it twice on the main account holder Sad
ugh!
Any ideas?

What email account is it trying to connect to. This will happen sometimes if the email server isn't running. It typically happens to me when .Mac is down.

its my main account with BellSouth and I have one other that it checks too and i didn't get an error on it. In the past, I had three other accounts with them and every once in a while it would prompt for the password, even though I told it to save it. I downgraded to "lite" so I only have two email accounts on this particular machine, one on my laptop and one on my pc and one on my mom's computer - none of the others have had this issue, just the bellsouth ones on my G5...

It sounds like it may be a service issue with BellSouth then. Can you check your mail via the web? If so then the next time you're prompted for your password check it through a web browser and see if there's a problem. Also, instead of just re-entering your password, restart Mail and see if it can connect then.
