Okay, so Christina has hinted on free movie tickets and I admit, I've gone to two free movies in the last 365 days. The latest was last night (Thursday) at Parkway AMC and the movie was Match Point - Woody Allen's latest creation. The fun thing about these free movies is the free stuff you get along with it (yes, Christina won a DAVE FM t-shirt), but you have to answer some trivia. WB was there too and since I don't watch much tv (stuck watching 4th season CSI on DVD), I didn't know what they were talking about let alone the show times. But I digress...
I'm not a big Woody Allen fan, but I don't go as far as my mother and actually avoid his films. I found out that I really hadn't kept up on current affairs in a while after being enlightened by Christina's knowledge of Allen's scandal.
After watching the trailer, I really thought this was going to be another adultery film, like "original sin" or "unfaithful" (not that I've watched either all the way through even though I'm a HUGE jolie fan). Boy was I wrong!
The mannerisms of the main character, Chris Wilton, got on my nerves (just call me Monk) and I found his pulsating blood vessel on the side of his head and his blood shot eyes and red face distracting during the tense moments (I think I caught myself counting the sweat drops on his forehead during the climax of the film). The acting seemed to be handled well and the story line kept you interested, even if you don't like steamy sex scenes - trust me, they didn't last long (do they ever?). I didn't recognize any of the actors/actresses except the blonde Nola, played by Scarlett Johansson [Home Alone 3 & The Horse Whisperer], although I must say that Emily Mortimer looked very familiar with her long hair and lanky posture... It was very interesting to see how all the events of the movie played out and to quote Christina "that's a Woody Allen ending for you!"
I give it three out of five stars.
Way better than the last movie I saw "the weather man" - after it was over, the lady in front of me turned around and asked if that wasn't the most depressing movie we had ever seen! Too bad for Nicolas Cage - he usually does a good job!
Now the crowd that showed up.... naw, I won't go there
