Hi Gang,

My Brother-in-law has asked me to sell his 2003 Mercedes Benz auto on ebay for him.  Any advice on what to do and what not to do?  I have sold a few things on ebat, but it was years ago.

I could use some advice on how to best go about this and what pre-cautions I should deal with.

Thanks,

Mike

My brother-in-law buys cars on eBay often. He chooses to pick-up in person and bring cash.  You have the ability to specify local pick-up, and also what type of payment when you create your listing.

There are some escrow services that help with making sure both parties are happy before the final $$$$ changes hands, but there are bad reports on some of those.

Lucky for my brother-in-law, he is able to look at the engine, breaks, under the car.  Along with the carfax report, he is reasonable sure he knows what he is getting.  He brings a trailer to haul the ebay car home.

But then he gets old classics that are fix-er-uppers, so he expects to do some work when he gets home.  Honesty is the best policy on listings.
