You didn't mention if you have tried to use Disk Utility. If you haven't, boot with the original CD and run it.

I have been breezing along since I installed Panther over a year ago without a single crash or freeze (other than the occasional unexpected quits). Last week I could not shut down from the menu .. I would scroll to Sleep but nothing would happen. I had to do a hard shut down. Since then, I get a freeze about once a day. It is never in the same program, It has happened Word, text edit, and illustrator. My mouse and keyboard are diabled. I can't force quit anything. The mouse will move around the but will not function. I have to do a hard restart

The only things that have changed is that I got the latest update of Suitcase, Itunes and of Office 2004 (I do keep Entourage open all the time). Could one of these be the culprit or is it simply time for a check up so the tech can run disk warrior or some such thing or reinstall OSX? I have not run any of these since the panther install.

AMUG now has a general calendar posted on Google Calendars.  It is accessible through iCal, SunBird, Lightning or any other ics capable calendar client that can subscribe to remote calendars.  This calendar lists General Meetings, OS X SIG meetings and FileMaker Pro SIG meetings currently.  It will be updated as time goes on.

can't you just send him the link where the download will start?
Most internet service providers have a limit of how big an attachment... so you might not be able to attach the files to an email.

I had led him to Version Tracker and he started to D/L WMP.  While downloading Windows Media Player he got some sort of error message and apparently Stuffit Extractor crashed and he couldn't decompress WMP.

SO if I could send him the program via an email it would make it easier for him. I just checked and WMP is a 7Meg DL and Extractor is 12Megs. As you say probably too big to send.

Just would like to know if size wasn't the issue, is the dmg file the complete file needed to install to the Mac?
Ahh, is your friend/client using an Intel-based Mac? StuffIt is known to have a problem with Intel Macs. Without the Mac in front of me, my recollection for the fix is to disable the "Automatically check for updates" feature in StuffIt. In other words, start StuffIt Expander, disable the feature under Files drop-down menu.

Anyway, it's something odd like that to fix it, may want to try Google for more info.

yes, a dmg file is an OSX downloadable file that is extractable and the complete app.
Another thing I've tried, if you have a website, is to place it in your website directory and then email that link. When your friend clicks on it, the download will start... there might be other issues.. permissions? The only time I've had an error is when I didn't get the complete download. I'm assuming he has dsl or broadband?

I'll be there. I plan to ask for search tips for finding files. Sounds simple, but I've had searches that run all day and produce nothing. I may be adding too much information.
