I took a look at Skype and it looks pretty interesting. Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that you can call from your computer to any US/Canada phone for $30 per year. For video each person needs Skype software and the necessary hardware, but no charge - right?

Skype is very popular worldwide, free computer-to-computer calls and cheap VOIP rates. The latest Skype also supports video, definitely an added plus.

However, the thing with Skype is that it is proprietary (as opposed to open standards VOIP technology SIP) and it uses peer-to-peer technology.

BTW with iChat you can also use GoogleTalk (Gtalk) accounts.
