The other place would be the Dock when you drag something off.

In either case you won't actually loose the item, just the shortcut to the item in either location.

I was closing many windows and while closing one there was the whispy puff sound and graphic just like when you pull something from the dock to delete it- it puffs away.

I wasn't near the dock though, I was closing some Word documents and closing finder windows with list of files in it, as far as I can remember.

My question is since I can't "see" what I might have deleted, is there a way in the 10.4.10 OS that I am running, to determine which files or folders were deleted just now???

If there is, Please let me know ASAP, I am really nervous that something inadvertently got deleted. I am well backed up, but if I can't determine which file was the one deleted then eventually I wil overwrite the backup disk and loose the file.

Thanks,
Jeff

Try installing <url=http://applejack.sourceforge.net/>AppleJack
, reboot into single user mode, and run AppleJack. It checks for and fixes a lot of stuff. Permissions repair, verification of plist preference files, fsck (disk repair), and a few other things.

If that doesn't fix it we can try some other things.
