             ===============================

The information that follows concerns the purpose and use restrictions for this bulletin board system.

PURPOSE: This Bulletin Board System (BBS) is primarily intended for use by members of the Atlanta Macintosh Users Group, Inc. and, in general, computer users nationwide.  Other computer types are welcome for open discussion in the public conferences, although the BBS does "cater" to Macintosh users and, as such, virtually all the files currently available on this BBS for downloading are for Macintosh computers only.

AFFILIATIONS: This system is part of The OneNet Member Network, a global sustem made up of hundreds of FirstClass BBS systems across the world with 150,000 plus users. By joining this system, you are now part of this global community. It is committed to providing access to information, tools and community for all of its users. It is also dedicated to providing a  diverse set of information by gatewaying a wide range of conferences on literally hundreds of topics. This system is part of that network and subscribes to many of these conferences. If you would like to know more about the OneNet Member Network, contact your SysOp.

RESTRICTED USE:  Users who refuse to appropriately register are automatically denied access to this BBS and automatically locked out by the software.  Everyone, both AMUG members and non-members, wishing access to this bulletin board system must complete the User Profile.  No exceptions!

AUTO-REGISTERED USERS:  Users who complete the User Profile are automatically granted a security level of an Autoregistered User.  At that security level, you are alloted 30 minutes/day access time and are restricted to the public conferences.  Until your User Profile information is verified by one of the CoSysOps (this may take several days -- please be patient). Except for the New Users Files conference you will be prohibited from downloading any files

NON-MEMBERS:  After the User Profile is verified, your security level will be raised to Non Member.  At this level, you are allotted 20 minutes/day access time; and, you will have access to unrestricted conferences and the ability to send/receive e-mail for 30 days.  You may also download files from "Files for New Users".  Files in the other File areas are restricted to download by AMUG members only.  Uploading is also restricted to AMUG members only.

AMUG MEMBERS:  AMUG membership does not "automatically" grant you a member's security level.  After the User Profile is verified by one of the CoSysOps, your security level will be raised to AMUG Member with a temporary 30-day expiration date.  One of the SysOps must then verify that you are a member in good standing (dues paid) in the membership database.  Membership verification may take a few days -- please be patient; the membership database and the BBS User Profile are totally separate files in different systems and the AMUG Treasurer must have receipt of your dues before your security level can be raised.

AMUG members are allotted at least 60 minutes/day access time and have access to join all unrestricted conferences.  AMUG members may also call into the BBS using the other member-only telephone lines, and upload/download files from all public File Directories. AMUG members also have an Internet Mail address and can read and reply to messages in the OneNet and UseNet newsgroups.  If you are an AMUG member, please indicate so when you fill out the User Profile.  This will speed along the process.

USE OF FALSE NAME OR ALIAS: If you logged on using a false name or "handle," you will not be verified and your account will be deleted.  Please call back and register using your real name.  Handles are not allowed on this BBS.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFO:  Please take some time to read through the bulletins in the "AMUG Info" folder.  There is an extensive help system located in the "Using the BBS" folder.  Reading the files in that folder will answer many of your questions about operating the FirstClass BBS.

Please take the time to occasionally delete items from your MailBox.  In addition to messages addressed to you, each message you send will show up as a copy in your own MailBox.  You will find it much more convenient (display speed will increase) if you periodically delete those entries.

The following are five very important BBS information and policy notes (please memorize!):

1) We do not permit the exchange of commercial software via this BBS nor do we permit messages that solicit or plan the illegal exchange of commercial software.

2) On-Site and Remote SysOps can read ALL messages that have been left on this bulletin board system.  This includes individual messages and messages that have been recently deleted.

3) We do not accept uploads of nude (or nearly nude) images nor scans of copyrighted material.  This is a "G" rated BBS; we provide access to users of all age groups, and therefore have no interest in .GIF files of questionable taste.  Scans of copyrighted images are also prohibited.  Please take these .GIF files elsewhere.

4) Users may have only one account.  Users attempting to establish multiple accounts on this BBS will be restricted and may lose all BBS privileges.

5) A User's ID and Password (a user account) cannot be shared with another person.  Sharing an ID and Password on this BBS is viewed as a security problem and will be treated as such.  Any user account that is found being used by more than one person will be restricted.  The owner of the account may lose all BBS privileges.

Thank you for your attention and adherance to these rules.  We hope you enjoy using the AMUG BBS.
